  • Discover the colours to work with
  • Establish essential studio skills
  • Start to grow meaningfully as an artist

Most of us have tinkered with watercolour or acrylics but making the transition to painting in oils can seem a bit daunting. As a medium for describing the world we see or moving into abstraction it is unequalled. The colours are rich and saturated and it is fantastically flexible as a medium. There is a reason that oil has remained the most persistent medium chosen by professional artists.

Learning its behaviours doesn’t take long, there are just a few simple rules to follow which are easy to pick up with some expert tuition. Once you are up to speed you will discover that oil is actually easier to work with than many other mediums.

This three week introduction is designed to give you the basics. You’ll learn to choose and mix colours, which surfaces and solvents to use, how to build up a painting in a way that works and all of the essential studio skills you’ll need to get cracking.
