Pathways to learning
If you are unsure about where to begin, start with life drawing. Drawing is an essential tool, more for training the eye rather than to produce finished drawings. We find many artists will practise observational drawing, particularly of the human figure, as a core discipline throughout their careers. So if you don’t know where to begin start with drawing.
We recommend attending our Introduction to Life Drawing on Monday evenings as an ideal starting point for absolute beginners.

10 weeks £450/ 5 weeks £250
12th January – 22nd March 2024.
Half Term 16th February.
An introduction to oil painting with a foundation in the elements of visual art . For beginners or intermediate artists who want to get going with oil paint and colour.
This is a practical course aimed at producing paintings, building confidence and inspiration from a firm foundation. Our premise is that you are better able to develop as an artist by interweaving creative tasks with exercises designed to train the eye, the hand and the mind. We connect with Ruskin’s ‘the Elements of Drawing’ and include ideas about art education from the early part of the 20th century along with more contemporary tenets. All the while you will be referencing art and artists to place your work in context.
